Position Description: Coordinator of Christian Education
Part-time 12-15 hours a week
The Coordinator of Christian Education is responsible for assisting with the organization, supervision, coordination and implementation of the overall program of Christian Education for age groups 3 years –4th grade within Covenant Presbyterian Church. A primary emphasis of this role is the recruitment, training, supervision and support of volunteers who provide the bulk of the instruction for the children. Occasional direct teaching and supervision of the children may be required.
The Coordinator of Christian Education is supervised by the Head of Staff and works directly with the Christian Education Committee.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
1.) Work with the Head of Staff and Christian Education Committee in expanding present Christian Education opportunities and developing additional and complementary educational ministries.
2.)In accordance with the mission and purpose of Covenant Presbyterian Church, assist in planning and implementing programs to meet the CE Committee’s goals and objectives.
3.)Serve as staff liaison with the Christian Education Committee.
4.)Assist with coordination of a comprehensive Sunday School program for children ages 3-4th grade, as well as the Wednesday night educational program for children in the same age group. Primary focus for coordination is recruitment, training, supervision and support of volunteers, although occasional direct teaching and supervision of the children may be required.
5.)Coordinate the Worship our Way (W.o.W.) program for children ages 3 – 4th grade. W.o.W. is a children’s worship and fellowship experience held during both Sunday morning worship services. Primary focus for coordination is recruitment, training, supervision and support of volunteers, although occasional direct teaching and supervision of the children may be required.
6.)Assist CE subcommittees and groups providing special projects for children within the church (Vacation Bible School, Christmas program, Lenten and Easter projects, etc.) as requested. Primary focus for assistance will be on provision of adequate volunteer services for implementation of the projects, although occasional direct service provision with the children may be required.
7.)Provide necessary training for Sunday morning and Wednesday night volunteers at least twice a year, as well as for VBS volunteers prior to the opening of VBS. This shall include Appropriate Relations in Ministry training at least annually. Files for volunteers are maintained by the Office Manager.
8.)Assist individual volunteer teachers when additional assistance and/or support is needed in the classroom or a specific activity.
9.) Evaluate the volunteer needs of the Christian Education program on a continual basis and make recommendations to the Head of Staff and CE committee regarding the same.
10)Coordinate Christian Education events and services with other members of the church staff.
11)Be at Covenant Presbyterian Church each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening except as approved in advance by the Head of Staff.
12)Perform other tasks as requested by the Head of Staff.
Experience and Education:
The Coordinator of Christian Education shall be a self-starter who has a creative talent and ability to develop and utilize all resources to assist with the delivery of Christian Education services to the designated age group. The individual shall possess strong leadership skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team. The individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills in relating persons of all ages, including both children and adults, The individual must also have the ability to achieve results through others. Good computer, organizational, and verbal skills are essential.
